THE LORD'S SUPPER (Holy Communion, Breaking of Bread)
On the first Sunday of each month, the English and Portuguese language worship services join together in the Main Auditorium following their respective services (10-11 a.m) for The Lord's Supper, celebrated bilingually in English and Portuguese (11-11:15 a.m.). By joining together as one church around the Lord's Table we affirm our common identity as disciples of Jesus Christ. At Central, you don't have to be a church member in order to participate in the Lord's Supper. The only requirement for partaking of the bread and cup (grape juice) is that "you love the Lord your God with all your heart and desire to be Jesus' true disciple". If you are not quite ready to make this commitment to Jesus Christ, we would encourage you to participate in the service but refrain from eating the bread and drinking the juice.
At Central we believe that Jesus Christ has called us to publicly affirm our faith in Him through the ordinance/sacrament of Believer's Baptism. If you would like to learn more about Believer's Baptism, please speak to one of our pastors.
The Rite of Infant Presentation and Parental Dedication provides us with an opportunity to welcome an infant or child into the community at Central and dedicate the parent(s) and church community to the care of this child. Unlike a Christening or Infant Baptism, no water is used, and parents are commended to raise their child in the faith until such time as the child is able and willing to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and thus enter into the waters of Believer's Baptism.
There are a number of ways in which you can get involved in the English worship ministry of the church.
Most Sunday, we are led by our regular worship band. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, we are led by our youth band. During July & August we are led by a summer band. If you are interested in playing/singing with one of these bands, please speak to one of the band members following the worship service. The band normally practices on Sunday morning before the service (9:00-9:40 a.m.).
We also have a choir that sings on occasion during our English worship service. The choir normally practices on the Sunday it sings (9:00-9:30 a.m.).
Each Sunday we have a team of Greeters/Ushers who welcome worshippers, hand out bulletins and collect the offering. If you are interested in this ministry please speak to one of the ushers following the service.
Each Sunday, a member of the congregation (who has been assigned in advance) reads the Scripture Lesson. If you would like to be added to the list of Scripture Readers, please speak to the pastor or one of the ushers following the service.
